Have a great day Mamis!!!

Sick single mom :-(

Hi Mamis…

I hope you’re all well, I myself am completely and totally ill. This whole week has been torturous. I started off Monday with a sore throat that was diagnosed as viral pharyngitis but now on Friday evening it’s developed into an upper respiratory infection. I feel like a train has ran over my body and stopped right on my chest. I haven’t been this sick in years. I might catch a little big here and there but I always keep going and don’t let it disrupt my normal mami duties. UNTIL this week.

I have left work early everyday to sneak into my relative’s empty apartment to sleep and recover because being at home meant taking care of my little meatball. I feel really guilty about doing this but I also feel like if I didn’t do it is probably be in a hospital right now. I guess this week it hit me just how challenging it is being a single parent. Of course, I have a ton of support (including meatball’s dad) but the minute I walk through my door, my daughter is my responsibility. I can’t let my sitter aka Abuelita take care of her in the evening also. She needs a break as taking care of my little meatball is NO EASY TASK! She’s not even 2 yet and she’s already in her terrible phase and it shows no sign of letting up.

Being a mami has been the best and most rewarding experience of my life so far but it’s also incredibly challenging especially today, especially this week and I’m sick. It’s terrible I don’t know how my mom did this. Kudos to all of you strong single moms who take care of your kids to matter what. This is not easy especially with a turned up toddler!

Okay good night stay strong single mamis and share your thoughts below!

Happy New Year Mamis! 2014 and I’m still breastfeeding!

Happy New Year!

2014 is here and I am still breastfeeding (I can’t believe it!). I didn’t think I’d be doing it for this long, I was certain that once meatball started solids, she’d prefer real food to mama’s milk but nope! She still loves to nurse whenever I am near, and she loves to nurse herself to sleep.

A lot of people ask me why I’m still doing it, or rather they tell me I need to stop (family members included -_-) and all I say is that I don’t have any plans on weaning my daughter. I want her to go off the boob at her own pace. Now let me just say that this is what WORKS for us and is not necessarily what everyone should do. Always assess your situation, desire and need and take it from there.

Nursing a toddler is not easy, it gets annoying and sometimes I wonder when I will get my boobs back, but for me…it’s just not something I plan to give up until she goes to college……KIDDING!!! LOL KIDDING!!!!!

Are any of you mamis still nursing past 6 months? 1 year? More? Did you wean? Why? Sound off on the comments mamis!

Have a great evening 🙂

Even the Pope approves

Good morning Mamis

Even if you’re not Catholic or religious for the matter you have to admit that Pope Francis is very different than his predecessors. He’s shaking up the Vatican by living modestly and making bold statements. He’s Time magazine’s Person of the Year and with good reason. I like him a lot. He was already cool in my book, but then he came out and defended a woman’s right to breastfeed in public…even at the Vatican. Smart guy!

YES POPE FRANCIS AKA POPE AWESOME!!! Read the article here.

Remember mamis..breastfeeding in public is a choice, you don’t have to do it if you don’t feel comfortable but isn’t it nice to know that major world figures are coming forth and normalizing breastfeeding? I’ve done it myself on more than one occasion and I’ve never gotten a negative reaction but then again, I don’t care either way. Anyhoot…a more detailed post on that later…in the meanwhile…..

Have a great weekend and eeekkksss!!! 5 days until Christmas (or 4 if you are Latina/o hee hee)

Sometimes I think to myself “hey I’m getting the hang of this motherhood thing” and then something happens that painfully reminds me that I don’t! (In today’s case it was seeing my clothes all over the floor and seeing bare drawers) Ain’t life funny that way?

So here’s a great little quote that puts a nice perspective on the journey called motherhood.

Good night mamis!

Babies are humans too

Came across this and I needed to share…sometimes we expect our kids to do things we ourselves cannot do.

Food for thought!

Have a good Day mamis! And happy Veteran’s day to my armed forces mamis across the world. Thank you for keeping us safe.

Want some free pizza? Breastfeed!

Nursing in public can be controversial. You might get a great reaction, no reaction or a very negative one. I myself have nursed in public, though I don’t try to do it unless it’s absolutely necessary. It’s also hard for me since meatball hates nursing under a cover. She just pulls it off, ha ha she wants the world to see her nursing.

Anyhoot…Today on my Breastfeeding Google alert I came across this really cute story…A woman in the Midwest was nursing her toddler at a pizza restaurant and because of that very natural act, the waitress paid for her pizza and left her a sweet note.

Check out the cute story here.

We need more of these…Normalize Breastfeeding!

Happy Mother’s Day/Feliz Dia de las Madres

Happy Mother’s day to all my dedicated mamis out there! This isn’t the easiest job in the world but it certainly has the best rewards. Enjoy the day!

Feliz dia de las madres a todas las mamis dedicadas! No es facil trabajo hacer mami pero tiene el mejor pago. Disfruten de su dia!

High heels for your toddler?!?!?

I took a trip to Payless Shoe Source to pick up some shoes for meatball. She’s outgrowing everything so quickly, and me being the frugal mami I am, refuse to spend an arm and a leg for shoes that aren’t going to fit her after 1.5 months or less. Plus it’s BOGO and who doesn’t like that? So I’m walking down the aisle and I spot hot pink strappy heeled sandals.

Really???? Heels for a toddler? My baby can barely walk straight with gummy flats…what if she breaks her ankle traipsing around in hot pink heels? What genius at Payless’ corporate headquarters thought a toddler would be able to walk in heels? Seriously??? Obviously a man thought of that because no woman would ever think to inflict the pain of heels on a 1 year old.

I don’t like the idea of heels because a baby girl does not need heels. Heels are for WOMEN not girls, not toddlers, and certainly not infants. Can we stop rushing our children to grow up?

Mamis…your opinions on this?

Role models for our daughters

Good afternoon beautiful mamis!

As you all know, Meatball is only 10 months old but yes, I am thinking of how I plan to shape her little mind. I’m super concerned about the image of women in the media and the last thing I want is for my baby to grow up in a world where ratchet reality stars are the top role models.

Yes, I know that I will be meatball’s prime example of womanhood, but it’s good to have back ups (LOL) the women in the bottom row of the pic below will be just that!

What do you do or plan to do to surround your daughter with positive and strong female role models? Geek on mamis!!! Live long and prosper!!!Image
